Bankruptcy Season is upon us. I recently learned that the bankruptcy season starts in early January. Craig D. Robins, Esq. has “observed that the December holidays lead most people who are troubled with serious debt problems to put off getting help. However, the advent of a new year, combined with the added pressure of bills from holiday purchases, causes many consumers with overwhelming debt to make that appointment to see a bankruptcy lawyer.”

There are definitely is a spike in the number of people that seek bankruptcy assistance during the period of January through April of each year. The holiday periods between Oct and Dec tend to see a decrease in people who are seeking bankruptcy help.
The economy is causing a shift in the bankruptcy paradigm. One of my clients used to think that Chapter 7 Bankruptcies dropped off after the first few months of the year. They attributed it to the fact that people were using their tax returns to pay for their bankruptcy. However, they’ve seen a consistent 10-15 initial consultations every month since February from an area with a population of about 33,000 in the 2010 census. And they only offer Chapter 7 Bankruptcy services.
Feels like it has been Bankruptcy season all year for us in Arizona.
