PLI Press Call for Student Papers

Practising Law Institute (PLI) is pleased to announce our first call for law student papers.

The PLI Chronicle is an open-access periodical available exclusively on PLI PLUS, the award-winning legal research platform of PLI Press. The Chronicle delivers timely and relevant discussions on hot topics — from laws, regulations, and policies, to industry developments and cutting-edge issues, to commentary on working in the legal and accounting industries. Check out the latest edition of the PLI Chronicle here.

Writing for the PLI Chronicle gives law students a direct line to PLI’s extensive userbase of 450,000 legal professionals — including 95% of Am Law 100 members, educators, government regulators, and thought leaders. This is a great opportunity for students looking to amplify their voices and connect with the minds that shape today’s legal landscape.

  • What excites you about AI? What are you nervous about?

Recommended Reading: Special Edition of Coach’s Counsel for First-Year Law Students

Students entering law school must adjust and adhere to a new, demanding set of educational standards and strategies. This can often be a huge transition for first-year students, which is why we are excited about the Coach’s Counsel column, How to Prepare for Your Law School Journey, published in a recent issue of PLI Chronicle: Insights and Perspectives for the Legal Community.

In the column, coaches Natalie Loeb and David Sarnoff offer valuable wisdom on developing practical strategies to maximize academic performance and maintain balance. The coaches suggest methods for time management and strategic planning and reflect on resources that are often underutilized during law school. They also identify the specific type of mindset crucial for success. The column, like all content published in the PLI Chronicle, is available to everyone — no subscription required.

PLI Chronicle: Special AALL Edition

Dear Readers,

PLI launched the online journal the PLI Chronicle in September 2020 with a simple mission: to present engaging and timely discussions about the legal industry from a diverse range of perspectives. Chronicle editor Alyse Greer explains, “Since everyone offers value to their fellow industry associates, all legal and accounting professionals are encouraged to submit articles. The publication gives authors a platform to educate others and the freedom to write in their own voices.”

We compiled this “special edition” of the Chronicle from articles published in previous issues as a way to familiarize librarians with this new content type. The selection reflects what we identified as themes running throughout this year’s American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) conference: 1) Diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession; 2) The future of legal technology, education, and research; and 3) Mental health for legal practitioners.

In the articles below, you’ll find wellness tips from an attorney who overcame depression and addiction; a two-part look into the Internet of Things and open source software; musings on the role of curiosity in fostering inclusion and diversity initiatives; and more. You don’t need a subscription to read these articles. Everything published in the Chronicle is available for anyone and everyone to read. All you need is a PLI account, which is both free and easy to set up.

Our hope is that this curated edition will enhance the conference experience and perhaps even inspire some of our colleagues in law libraries to publish with us.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Fiore, J.D., M.A.
Associate Legal Editor, Publishing and PLI Plus

Recommended Reading: Gary Brown’s Article in April’s PLI Chronicle

We regularly receive research requests related to proxy voting, which is why we were excited to see an article by Gary Brown on the “Background of Proxy Requirements” in this month’s issue of PLI Chronicle: Insights and Perspectives for the Legal Community.**

The article serves as an excellent primer on proxy voting requirements for shareholders in US corporations.  Brown, a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, regularly represents boards of directors and special committees of boards in matters involving SEC and Department of Justice investigations, activist shareholders, and strategic decisions. He is also part of PLI’s faculty and the author of several PLI Press publications including the recently published handbook Master the Proxy Statement.

**Articles published in the PLI Chronicle are available for any and everyone. Check out this month’s issue: PLI Chronicle: April 2021.
