Covered Bonds

Covered Bonds are a financial tool popular in Europe and slowly crossing the Atlantic.  The New York Times recently wrote about this and explained that while “there is no established market for the bonds in the United States, though they are a $3 trillion business overseas and lately have been attracting American institutional investors.”

Need a reliable resource for your library collection?  The PLI Covered Bond Handbook is a comprehensive guide that explains how covered bond transactions are structured in Canada, in European jurisdictions and in the U.S.; provides a comparative analysis of the jurisdictional framework; discusses the rating agency view of covered bonds; describes the many benefits associated with covered bonds; and discusses proposed US legislation designed to codify the treatment of covered bonds and provide a statutory framework for their issuance.
