PLI Librarian Advisory Breakfast at AALL 2015
Practising Law Institute (PLI) will be holding a Librarian Advisory Breakfast at the AALL 2015 Annual Meeting & Conference in Philadelphia.
At PLI, we recognize that past practices greatly affect future dealings and decisions, and we’re working hard to upload our vast archived content to PLI Discover PLUS, our eBook library containing our authoritative Treatises, Answer Books, Course Handbooks, Program Transcripts, and Legal Forms. Since PLI has been publishing authoritative secondary sources on legal matters since 1933, we are in a unique position to be able to provide our subscribers with a treasure trove of expert opinions. By the end of 2014, we had released over ten years of Course Handbook content going back to 2004, and we are continuing to provide subscribers with more archived titles every week.
During a breakfast discussion on Discover PLUS historical content, we will offer a participant the chance to explore their very own history: attendees will be placed in a drawing for a chance to WIN a FREE World Explorer Ancestry.com package
($224 value).
We will also demonstrate the exciting future enhancements that are currently planned for Discover PLUS.

And the 2015 Webby Award for Best Law Website goes to….
perma.cc Built & Run by Libraries
The 2015 winner of the Webby Award for best law website goes to Harvard Law School Library – Innovation Lab for the beta site perma.cc.
According to a study by Harvard Law, approximately 70% of all citation links published in law journals from 1999 to 2011 are now defunct. perma.cc plans to prevent all future broken links in legal citation through perma.cc’s three step approach: create, vest, archive.
Create: A user enters a URL creating a Perma Link associated with a temporary archive.
Vest: A Vesting User, someone affiliated with one or more Vesting Organizations such as law journals or courts, reviews and approves the Perma Link making the archive permanent.
Archive: An archive type is chosen (Live Page View, Screen Capture View, Archived Page View.
Visit https://perma.cc/ to learn more!
“Perma.cc is powered by libraries because we’re in the forever business. We’re already looking after printed materials. It’s time we did the same for links.”
Training: The Most Effective Communication Activity for Law Librarians
Earlier this year, the American Association of Law Libraries published a report on The Economic Value of Law Libraries . The report emphasized the need for law librarians to communicate their libraries’ worth to their organizations and outlined best practices and strategies for doing so.
Electronic databases were ranked as the number one valued library service and training topped the list as the most effective communication activity across all respondents including users, library directors and stakeholders.
PLI Library Relations offers free in person and WebEx training sessions to our library customers. Our training sessions showcase PLI Discover PLUS, PLI’s electronic database of treatises, answer books, course handbooks, downloadable forms and program transcripts of PLI’s nationally acclaimed seminars.

Updates to Post-Grant Proceedings Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board
Are you looking for authoritative resources on Litigation law? You can find acclaimed, expert-authored sources on PLI Discover PLUS, which provides you with the most up-to-date content such as the recently supplemented Treatise Post-Grant Proceedings Before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. This Treatise will help guide you through the process of initiating a post-grant proceeding, taking discovery, seeking sanctions, proposing and opposing claim amendments, effectively advocating at the oral hearing, appealing to the Federal Circuit, and handling a wide array of issues involving co-pending district court litigation.
You’ll find updated information on:
Claims Challenged and Grounds – current decisions on who has standing to challenge a patent in an inter partes review petition. Read details on these decisions in Section 3:2.3.
Cross-Examination of Petitioner’s Declarant(s) – this section in Chapter 1 “Patent Owner Discovery Period, Response and Proposed Amendments”, has been significantly expanded to reflect new guidance from the Board. Do you have questions on specific wording on observations or foreign language depositions that require an interpreter? Find that information in Section 8:1.1.
Appeals to the Federal Circuit – this chapter has been updated to provide information on a number of cases that were decided in 2014, to help clarify which issues are not appealable. For example, you can read more on the PTAB decision not to institute an inter partes review in Section 14:1.
